I have this memory of bobbing for apples at a classmate's Halloween party maybe 30 years ago and I'm like "did that really happen?" I also remember getting homemade candy apples at least a time or two while trick or treating. I can't even IMAGINE these things happening in the present day. "Raw and real" truly is the best way to describe 80s and 90s Halloweens haha.

Totally agree with you! I can't imagine someone placing raw apples or any other fruit in a trick or treat bag or pail. I recall getting candy apples back in the day also! Kids today have no idea what raw and real Halloween could be like sadly. Thanks for reading and commenting Marissa!

My last Ben Cooper costume was Luke Skywalker in X wing flight suit, still my favorite. I did manage to pick up in early 2000s a regular Luke costume still in the box at a flea market. Thanks for the walk down nostalgia lane👍🏻

Right on, Frank! I've seen the Ben Cooper Luke Skywalker flight suit costume, it's pretty awesome! It's definitely one of the more iconic ones. Thank you for reading, I greatly appreciate it!

I loved reading this! The 1980s and 1990s were the best decades ever. Awh Halloween Eve on Cartoon Network!! What a throwback! Loved this! 🧡🎃

Thanks Mick! Means a lot. I've had it on my list to get myself a Ben Cooper Chuck Norris costume. Still searching for one! Lol

I loved those Ben Cooper costumes! It was a thrill every year going to my local Turn-Style department store and selecting which one I wanted to wear. I remember once being Archie from the Archies and a gorilla another time. The disappointment came when I was in 6th grade and students with home made costumes laughed at my store bought costume. That was the last time I bought one. It took a bit of joy out of Halloween! Now, as an adult, I find Halloween to be a bit too overblown and a month-long holiday for younger people. Don't get me wrong: I decorate the outside of our house and occasionally dress up for the arriving kids. But I loved those store bought costumes!

Kids can be bastards!! I used to get made fun of some years also because all I could pull off were some fangs from kmart and black paint. I remember using a black garbage bag as my cape. I guess I was asking for it! lol

I agree with you, Halloween has sort of become this really long holiday. I think part of it is the social media people that post about horror all year long... they start on the Halloween stuff in August all the way through to December!!

Fortunately, we just do a harvest festival day of, some reasonable trick or treating, and a pumpkin patch visit a few weeks before. I'm too old for long Halloweens anymore!! LOL

Holy crap the Halloween pails! Yes! I’d nearly forgotten about those!

My mom would greet the trick-or-treaters as they came up our porch, and my dad (a teacher) would wait until they got their candy and then bang the crap out of the underside of the porch with some heavy chains to scare everybody. It was excellent.

For my part, I had one of the scariest adventures in my life on Halloween. It was so wild that no one believed me. But the neighborhood kids did, because they saw it, too.

Now, it’s perhaps my and my wife’s favorite holiday. We’ve had that very talk about how to do it properly, like we used to. Still trying to figure something out. As you say, it’s a little too manicured and sanitized today.

Lol, you will have to share your Halloween story some time for sure!

I have a few of the Pails still. They are more for decoration now, lol.

I still make sure to take the kids around our neighborhood for trick or treating. There is a home nearby that is gaining some steam online by decorating their entire home with a theme. Two years ago they did Stranger Things... it was amazing!!

Our town, I have to say, goes absolutely all-out when it comes to Halloween. Whole houses decorated by theme, a human + pet paired costume competition, and while the kids are out trick-or-treating, Santa rides around with Krampus in a decorated golf cart throwing candy at everyone. It’s an absolute blast.

Been watching a lot of horror movies, and we are all decorated here. Love diving into the spirit of the season. Walks with my dog and the crunch of leaves with my Halloween music playlist in my headphones. Pure bliss.
