I think I'm a bit older than you John! When I was a kid Friday night on ABC consisted of: The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, Room 222, The Odd Couple, & Love American Style. Even then I felt it was necessary to spend my Friday nights watching what I considered to be a pretty great lineup! Have the shows held up? Well, I'll always have the softest spot for The Brady Bunch. I knew those episodes back to front even if they are highly contrived and dated. I also think The Odd Couple was pretty great. I recently caught the first episode of Room 222 on the Internet Archive and thought it was way ahead of it's time. I need to dive back into that one. The Partridge Family is fun once in a while for some of those songs. I've not seen Love American Style in a while but it was sort of the Love Boat before the Love Boat with all of its guest stars. Are YOU familiar with any of these shows?
Hey Dan! Yeah, I'm a '76 baby. I watched reruns of The Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island, The Monkees, Laverne & Shirley, Happy Days, Mork & Mindy, and so many more in the early 80s. I believe being born in the mid 70s gave us that great transition from classic tv to the stuff that popped up in the 80s. Absolutely have a strong love for The Brady Bunch. I haven't seen Room 222 and wasn't all that into The Partridge Family or The Odd Couple. I did watch The Love Boat and always loved it when a special guest was on. One of my faves was Michael J Fox appearance. Oh, and prob not Friday night shows, but I loved Welcome Back Kotter, Sanford and Son, and Good Times (couple of solid tear jerker episodes in that one).
Loved Gilligan's Island as a kid too! Interestingly I think Sanford and Son was also a Friday night show but on NBC. I'd end up catching that in reruns. Redd Foxx was hilarious! I was also a big fan of Welcome Back Kotter and, particularly, Good Times. My mom took me to California when I graduated from 8th Grade and we saw a live taping of one of the first episodes with Janet Jackson! It was pretty special!
Love it! Iβve always wondered what that show would have been like if she stayed on. Although I have lots of love for Priscilla Barnes too! Heard they are remaking the show.
Dude, loved Janet Jackson on that show!! That's so awesome you got to do that. What a great show that was and honestly, they don't really make shows like that anymore. It's too bad. Loved it when Redd Foxx feigned a heart attack! π€£ 70s tv was amazing... my all time fave was Three's Company!!
I saw a taping of Three's Company on the same trip! It was, I believe, after the show's first season had aired so it was just coming in to it's own. I got to meet Suzanne Somers afterwards. She couldn't have been nicer!
Yes! When I was five, I saw it for the first time at a friendβs house. Came home and was like, βMom! I saw the best show! It had three girls & three boys!β
She pulled out the pink section, which is where the TV guide was then, found the show, and I watched every episode for at least ten more years. Cringe.
Totally agree! That show was so funny and the cast tremendously talented. Last year we rewatched all seasons and just as funny today as it was back then!
You must be a younger Xer than I! Never watched any of those shows & I LOATHED Perfect Strangers with Balkieβs painful fake accent.
Iβll take the liberty of going back a few more years to say that the Mork & Mindy/Out of the Blue block and anything else that spun off Happy Days were my faves.
Special mention to: Facts of Life & Diffβrent Strokes.

Yeah, I pretty much stopped watching it after Somers left. A remake would be interesting today. Are there still Mr. Ropers out there??

I just wrote something similar, but forgot to mention Brady Bunch, which was on from 5-6pm daily on reruns when I was little.
Yeah, I remember that once the show went into syndication it was on all the time!

Easy choice for me . . . Perfect Strangers . . . Donβt be ridiculous!
