Best TGIF show of all time? šŗš
...and thank you for 500+ Subscribers!
ABCās TGIF lineup was peak family appointment television. You didnāt go out, you didnāt check your phone (because, uh, it was attached to the wall), you just parked it in front of the tube and let the laugh tracks roll. Some shows were filler, but a handful became the Mount Rushmore of TGIF. These five made the cut because they defined the block, owned the ratings, or still get quoted to this day.
My personal pick is Perfect Strangers⦠but excited to learn what yours was!
I hit the 500 subscriber mark a few days ago and Iām pretty stoked! You may or may not know this, but I have nearly a million followers across social media, most on IG⦠BUT HONESTLYā¦, having 500+ subscribers on Substack has probably been the most gratifying⦠itās really tough to grow here, but Iāve been tracking my open stats and Iām sitting at a very healthy 85% āopen rateā for a good majority of my emails, so that makes me very excited about the future. And Iām especially grateful for all of you that have upgraded your subscription⦠thank you!
Iāve learned it takes far more effort (great, consistent writing, and your unique voice) to get a Substacker to click on that beautiful āSubscribeā button. But for each and every one of you that has clicked that button, itās been far more than a dopamine hit. I take this very seriously and Iām always excited to show up and make sure my posts take you back, remind you of shared experiences⦠and make you feel something.
You also motivated me to complete my book, which was published on June 3rd this year, and it hit #1 New Release in TV History & Criticism a couple of weeks in and made the TOP 40 Amazon Best Sellers List!!
I continue recording sessions for the audiobook version of my book. Iām really hoping we can make the holiday release schedule, but itās been back to school stuff the last few weeks, and Iām drained.
Iām going to rest this weekend and recharge and put in the hard, but fun, work next week.
POLL RESULTSā¦
This poll is just about perfect. I would say that Right Here Waiting by Richard Marx was probably the better track, but I gotta give it up for Steve Winwood⦠what a legend that guy is! Loved āValerieā and āHigher Love.ā
TEARS FOR FEARS takes it this week⦠enjoy the vid!
Have a wonderful weekend and look for a rad email on Tuesday!
Hit the ā¤ļø below if you remember this guy
Stay rad!
John
I think I'm a bit older than you John! When I was a kid Friday night on ABC consisted of: The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, Room 222, The Odd Couple, & Love American Style. Even then I felt it was necessary to spend my Friday nights watching what I considered to be a pretty great lineup! Have the shows held up? Well, I'll always have the softest spot for The Brady Bunch. I knew those episodes back to front even if they are highly contrived and dated. I also think The Odd Couple was pretty great. I recently caught the first episode of Room 222 on the Internet Archive and thought it was way ahead of it's time. I need to dive back into that one. The Partridge Family is fun once in a while for some of those songs. I've not seen Love American Style in a while but it was sort of the Love Boat before the Love Boat with all of its guest stars. Are YOU familiar with any of these shows?
Easy choice for me . . . Perfect Strangers . . . Donāt be ridiculous!
